Legal Education
What I’ve Learned
August 2016 - May 2019
JD Stetson University College of Law
As a student at Stetson Law I was able to receive one of the best legal educations available. As a part of their dual degree program I was the only student in my graduating class to earn both my JD and LLM in just three years.
Stetson is also known nationally for excellency in legal writing and is #1 for excellency in advocacy. My education at Stetson has aided in my ability to thrive outside of the classroom and enter the legal profession with the confidence in knowing I have all the tools of an excellent education.
September 2017 - July 2018
LL.M University of East Anglia
At UEA, a top ten law school in England and the 55th best law school in the world, I earned my LLM in Information Technology and Intellectual Property Law with high distinction placing me at the top end of my graduating class. My dissertation titled, "A Comparative Analysis of Patent Law and Inventorship in the Age of the Creative Computer" received top marks and high accolades.
I completed this degree during the second year of my JD education in order to truly focus in on my passion for intellectual property law at a deeper level.
My Experiences
Background & Expertise
Willem C. Vis Moot Team
October 2017 - May 2018
The Willem C. Vis Mooting Competition is an annual international legal competition where over 350 teams, from law schools around the world meet in Vienna Austria to compete in commercial arbitration mooting.
While at UEA I was able to be a leading member of their VIS team. Working alongside my teammates, from 13 different countries, we completed both a memorandum for the Claimant and the Respondent to the mock claim. Using both the CISG, UNIDROIT, and several other international instruments we worked for months on perfecting arguments to take to Vienna and compete in the oral arguments stage of the moot.
This experience not only helped hone my legal writing skills, but it also greatly improved my understanding of commercial arbitration. Not only that, but by working with other lawyers from around the world I learned to work not only as a member of a team but as an understanding and strong leader. I hope to return to the competition in the coming years, not as a competitor but as a volunteer arbitrator and organizer.
Dissertation Writing
May 2018 - August 2018
In order to complete my LL.M in IP/IT law I needed to complete a masters thesis paper. The paper needed to be on a topic that was under our legal studies topics, as well as something we were truly passionate about. For me, that was artificial intelligence and patent law. My paper, titled "A Comparative Analysis of Patent Law and Inventorship in the Age of the Creative Computer", explored patent and inventor rights for AI computers creating devices and inventions autonomously. I felt that this topic was going to be an emerging issue in the coming years, and was one that needed to be discussed and researched further.
My Skills
What I Can Do For You
Legal Research and Writing
Raising the Bar
One of the most important skills I learned in law school was that of legal research and writing. Stetson is ranked in the top 10 in the US for legal writing, as a student there I learned to produce excellent legal writings. Further, through VIS moot and dissertation writing I have learned to research not only US laws and cases but also international law and scholarly works.
Social Media Outreach
A Valuable Skill
Social media is not just for online brands and influencers. Understanding how to work on social media and develop a brand and reach out to potential clients and customers is becoming increasingly important in the legal world as well. Working on building a website for your company that will show who you are, what you can do for your clients, and also show others in the legal community what your firm is working on in a blog can increase traffic to your. As a child of the age of the internet, I have learned the skills needed to create an online presence that will only benefit your company.
Working with a Team
Above and Beyond
Throughout my life I have been a member of a team. Whether it was my childhood soccer team, high school sports/clubs, my sorority, or my international arbitration team. These have all helped in allowing me to be a person who can work with others in a productive manner that benefits everyone on the team. Developing leadership skills throughout my live has allowed me to be social chair of my sorority, executive marketing director of my University student government, and team leader for my VIS moot team. Together, all of these experiences have allowed me to grow as a leader and learn to work with people who from all around the world.
